Dubai: The UAE’s Cyber Security Council affirmed the continuation of national efforts to monitor and counter cyber threats, in light of the increasing pace of cyberattack attempts targeting a number of vital sectors, most notably the energy and education sectors, coinciding with the rapid development in cyberattack methods at the global level.
Summary
The Council explained today that the national cybersecurity system was able during the past period to detect and counter nearly 750,000 cyberattack attempts, including attempts to execute remote code commands, distributed denial-of-service attacks, phishing attempts, as well as cyberattacks supported by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, and other patterns of advanced cyber threats. It pointed out that monitoring and response operations are carried out within an integrated national system that relies on continuous monitoring, early detection, advanced analysis, and proactive response, in coordination with the relevant national authorities, which enhances the protection of the digital infrastructure and raises the level of readiness and cyber resilience of vital sectors. The Council stressed that the increase in the number of detected cyberattack attempts does not necessarily mean that successful breaches have occurred, but rather reflects the efficiency of national capabilities in detecting, dealing with, and reducing the risks of threats, which contributes to enhancing the continuity of digital services.
It stressed that the UAE continues to develop its national capabilities in the field of cybersecurity by employing advanced technologies and artificial intelligence, and enhancing integration and cooperation among relevant authorities, which contributes to raising the efficiency of the cyber defence system and keeping pace with evolving threats. The Council stressed that protecting digital infrastructure and vital sectors is a national priority, and that proactive and continuous efforts reflect the UAE’s commitment to enhancing the security of its cyberspace and supporting the stability and sustainability of vital services.
KazaSec's take
Phishing and credential-based attacks succeed because they target people, not just infrastructure, technical controls like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC only ever close part of that gap. The rest comes down to whether a team can actually spot the fake, and whether a compromised credential can still be reused anywhere else.
