OpenAI has introduced GPT-6 with Intelligent UI, a capability that allows ChatGPT to generate interactive elements directly within conversations, including charts, forms, visual explanations and task-specific tools.
Summary
The October 8 announcement also introduces changes to how ChatGPT delivers responses. Rather than waiting until the model has completed its reasoning process, GPT-6 can begin presenting useful information while continuing to work through a question. OpenAI's product strategy, with ChatGPT evolving from a conversational assistant toward a system that can adapt its interface to the task a user wants to complete.
Intelligent UI Changes How ChatGPT Responds One of the most significant additions is Intelligent UI, which enables ChatGPT to choose between text, visual elements and interactive experiences based on the nature of a request. For example, a user planning a trip could receive a map with suggested stops rather than a lengthy itinerary. Someone comparing options could see a side-by-side layout, while a person exploring a complex concept could interact with a diagram.
The capability also extends to practical tools. ChatGPT can create experiences such as bill splitters and savings calculators within the conversation, reducing the need for users to move between separate applications for certain tasks. According to OpenAI, the system uses a library of native components and a compiler that progressively builds the interface as the response is generated.
Importantly, the company says GPT-6 has been trained to recognize when an interactive experience is useful and when a conventional text response is sufficient. Adding visual elements to every answer could make conversations more complicated rather than more helpful. The larger change is that ChatGPT can now determine not only what information to provide, but also how users should interact with it.
GPT-6 Focuses On Reducing Response Delays Alongside Intelligent UI, OpenAI is changing the way its reasoning models deliver answers. Previously, more complex queries could require users to wait while a model completed its reasoning before receiving a response. With GPT-6, ChatGPT can begin answering using information it has already established while continuing to reason through the remaining parts of the request.
OpenAI says the approach allows the model to deliver answers progressively without sacrificing coherence. In an internal evaluation of everyday agentic tasks, the company reported that GPT-6 Extra High began responding in approximately the same amount of time as GPT-5.6 Medium while achieving a higher overall evaluation score than GPT-5.6 Extra High. For queries involving web searches, OpenAI reported that GPT-6 Instant began responding 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant.
These figures relate to how quickly an answer begins appearing, rather than the time required to complete every response. They are also based on OpenAI's internal evaluations, not independent benchmark testing. Better Web Search And Stronger Safety Safeguards Beyond response speed, OpenAI says GPT-6 improves how ChatGPT handles questions that require external information.
The model has been trained to make better decisions about when to search the web and to identify information that directly supports an answer. In OpenAI's internal evaluation of difficult web-search problems, GPT-6 outperformed GPT-5.6 on measures of whether it addressed the central question correctly. However, the results remain company-reported and do not establish how consistently those improvements will translate into everyday use.
Safety is another area of focus. OpenAI says GPT-6 has stronger safeguards against attempts to bypass its safety restrictions, including attacks that unfold over multiple conversational turns. The company has also updated training related to potentially harmful requests involving cybersecurity, biological threats and violence.
Another change concerns how the model communicates uncertainty. According to OpenAI, GPT-6 is better at acknowledging when it lacks sufficient information or access to the tools needed to complete a task. These improvements address two persistent concerns with generative AI: the reliability of model-generated information and the ability of increasingly capable systems to operate within appropriate boundaries.
Who Gets GPT-6 And Intelligent UI? OpenAI began the global rollout on October 7, 2026, for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, followed by Free and Go users from October 8. Enterprise access remains subject to administrator settings.
The company is using different GPT-6 configurations across subscription tiers. Intelligent UI is available with GPT-6 across supported reasoning settings from Instant through Extra High, but the separate Astra-powered Pro reasoning option does not support it. The release applies to the ChatGPT conversation experience.
OpenAI has not changed the models powering Work and Codex as part of this rollout. Beyond The Traditional Chatbot With GPT-6, OpenAI is approaching the relationship between AI and software interfaces. Traditional applications generally require users to navigate predefined menus, screens and workflows.
Conversational AI simplified some of those interactions by allowing people to describe what they wanted in natural language. Intelligent UI takes that approach further by allowing ChatGPT to assemble parts of the interface around an individual request. For users, the immediate benefit could be fewer steps between asking a question and completing a task.
For software providers, the development raises a larger question about which functions still require dedicated applications and which can be delivered through an adaptable AI interface. However, there are practical limitations. A generated calculator or interactive chart is only as useful as the underlying information and calculations.
More sophisticated interfaces do not automatically guarantee accurate outputs. OpenAI also acknowledges that the system's design judgment needs further improvement. It is not simply that GPT-6 can produce faster or more visual answers.
It is that OpenAI is moving toward an AI experience in which the interface itself changes according to what the user wants to accomplish. Whether that becomes a meaningful alternative to conventional software will depend on how reliably ChatGPT can combine accurate information, useful interactions and task completion at scale.
KazaSec's take
AI-related security incidents are a genuinely new category, prompt injection, model manipulation, and data leakage through an LLM integration don't map cleanly onto traditional application security testing, and are worth assessing deliberately rather than assuming existing controls already cover them.
