China said it plans to restrict or ban exports of 40 technologies that span artificial intelligence, chips and solar power as its technology race with countries including the United States intensifies.
Summary
The draft proposal released by Ministry of Commerce would ban exports of 14 technologies, including AI-driven malicious code generation and mutation technology, as well as AI models trained on Chinese core data. The draft also proposes restricting exports of 26 other technologies, including those with hacking capabilities.
"Risks triggered by artificial intelligence have attracted close attention from countries around the world," the ministry said in a statement.
“The Chinese government is implementing such necessary measures with the aims of reinforcing the security bottom line, preventing misuse and abuse, and ensuring that AI remains under human control,” the ministry added.
KazaSec's take
AI-related security incidents are a genuinely new category, prompt injection, model manipulation, and data leakage through an LLM integration don't map cleanly onto traditional application security testing, and are worth assessing deliberately rather than assuming existing controls already cover them.
